- Old stems round and woody. Stems blue-green, rather stiff, to 50 cm long and 3,5 cm wide, first upright, with deep crenations en a thick midrib. Areoles on the base often with bristles and hairs. Flowering diurnal. Flower 18-29 cm long, 10-20 cm diameter, strongly scented. Ovary with 2 cm long scales. Receptacle 10-12 cm long, thin, angled, with to 3 cm long linear scales. Outer petals 6 cm long, light yellow. Inner petals white. Filaments yellow. Style white. Fruit red, pulpa red.

- Mexico: Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, Veracruz; Honduras: Francisco Morazán; Guatemala: Baja Verapaz, Quiché, Sacatepéquez; El Salvador: Ahuachapan, 1300-2500 m.
