- Stems cylindrical, green. Acrotone branched in up to eight-part whorls. Young stems with bristly spines. Older stems 10-20 cm long, 3-4 mm across, sometimes with aerial roots. Areoles small, glabrous or with small bristly spines. Flower 5 mm long. Pericarpel as long or longer than perianth. Ovary round, green, with 1-2 scales. Outer petals up to 5 mm long, greenish white. Petals white or pinkish-white, in some forms to pinkish-red. Stamens white. Style white, longer than the petals. Fruit spherical to slightly oblong, 7 mm long, 5 mm diameter, white, sometimes pink. Seed 1.5 mm, black. Self-fertile.
