- Very long, stems up to 2.2 cm thick. Ribs mostly 4, with podaria up to 1 cm high. Spines 5-6, 4-6 mm long, initially bristly, later dehiscent, the 2-3 lower ones remaining; these are stouter and brown. Flower 30-40 cm long. Ovary and receptacle with black hairs and thin white spines. Receptacle greenish or brownish. Outer petals reddish, inner petals more yellowish. Inner petals broad, white.
